Ruelβs February 13 stop at Marathon Music Works felt fan-driven and high energy, with a packed floor full of young listeners ready to sing and dance along. Opener Arthur Hill delivered a tight set of synth-backed pop songs centered on heartbreak and self-reflection. It was clear from the start of the set that a large portion of the crowd was already familiar with his music. Performing with tracks and minimal staging, he relied on vocal control and timing rather than extravagance. His lyrics centered on heartbreak, miscommunication, and reflection which resonated perfectly with early comers.
Early in the headlining set, Ruel told the audience he had written parts of Kicking My Feet in Nashville with Sam McPherson which brought loud cheers. This transitioned perfectly into βI Can Die Nowβ, whose chorus the crowd sang back at full volume. A fan tossing a sparkling cowboy hat onto the stage created one of the nightβs most distinctly local moments: Vincent wore it briefly to lean into the bit. Later, a short technical issue led to a stripped-down acoustic stretch that quieted the audience almost instantly. Without the full band, the sing-along became more audible, and phones rose across the room to capture the unexpected intimacy.
The set leaned heavily on his newest album, Kicking My Feet, while still making time for earlier material that brought the loudest reactions. This revealed a devout fanbase that has both grown with him and remains attached to his early releases. Throughout the night he frequently stepped back from the mic to let the audience carry choruses, reinforcing the collaborative feel of the show. He chose to close with βPainkillerβ which proved effective as the opening notes triggered an immediate roar, and nearly the entire venue sang along. The show stayed grounded with clear vocals, steady pacing, and plenty of crowd interaction. Between the strong opening set, Nashville references, and personality filled unscripted moments, this tour created a beautiful night for everyone present.
